A glaring example of bad marketing

December 10th @ 11:06 pm  -  Usability  -  0 Comments

Is it possible for a commercial to have bad usability? Well… yes and no. You have viewers, who are similar to users. And you have a purpose. By any measurement, however, this commercial has missed the mark.

Open letter to developers: The IE6 Death Blow

The old school developers will remember, and for the new ones, a quick history lesson. In the 1990s, Netscape Navigator (Mozilla rendering engine) was the dominant browser. It “had a few bugs”, and as a result, when Internet Explorer started playing catch-up, there were a lot of reasons to start using IE instead of Netscape. You are not building a YouTube killer.

If 40m users get OpenID, would anybody notice it?

September 24th @ 11:50 pm  -  Business, Usability  -  0 Comments

According to Read/WriteWeb, Orange added OpenID to their userbase of 40 million people.  This would be excellent news, if only OpenID were easy to understand and easy to use.

In my experience, OpenID has been nothing but a pain to implement.  There’s no clear documentation, explanation, etc.  The only thing that exists that I’ve found are the white docs.  This will not help my grandma figure out how to use OpenID.  The system needs to be easy to use, end of story.

Coming Soon: Touch screen iPod

September 4th @ 7:30 pm  -  Design, Usability  -  0 Comments

I never said I had to blog about a specific category, so check this out.

I just read that the iPod is getting touch screen. Yes, similiar to the iPhone. Now, I don’t own an iPod, or an iPhone, or iAnything… I’ve been a PC guy my whole life. This is cool though, and worthy of mention, so go have a peek.

In addition, the Nano is getting cover flow browsing. Sweet.
