Adobe must be insane. According to R/WW, Adobe plans to shift all of their applications to browser based applications. On the other hand, they’ve just released Adobe AIR, which aims to put Adobe Flex on the desktop. Which is it, Adobe?
Adobe’s internal struggles are not the point of this article, however. They simply sparked my intense desire to express my frustration with the direction of the internet. The following may be too much for some of you to handle. Take it with a grain of salt and an open mind, and consider what I’m saying before you react (and comment), please.

Think back ten to fifteen years ago. The internet was booming for the first time, and communication channels were heading off of IRC and into the world of instant messaging, free home pages, and buddy lists. I’m talking about AOL.
AOL was the place to be. “What’s your AOL?” was the big question that could easily garner you a place on someones buddy list. It was all you needed to get in touch with someone, read more about them, and contact them at a later time. AOL was the first social network.
