MyBlogLog is broken.

While checking out Zoli’s blog, I noticed his MyBlogLog widget and decided to give it a try.

My first reaction was “ah, this is the site that had everyone complaining about Yahoo‘s login system”.  Imagine my dismay when it wouldn’t let me log in with my Yahoo ID.  I thought maybe it was my browser, so I tired in Firefox, and then Internet Explorer (I use Opera 9.5).  Neither worked.  Not for the sign in link on the main page, not for the sign in link at the top.

I tried it on a different computer, 10 miles away.  Still no dice for any of the 3 browsers I have.

How can something so fundamental be broken for (so far) an entire day?  I honestly wanted to give MyBlogLog a try, but it’s looking like Yahoo just won’t let me.  Sad, really.

You are not building a YouTube killer.

Or a MySpace killer, or a Google killer, or an eBay killer.

I’ve seen time and time again the sensationalist headlines that “X is building a Y killer!” (No offense, Kristen).  What a lot of people fail to realize is that features alone cannot debunk a major platform like YouTube or MySpace.  There is something these platforms bring that a new platform simply cannot.  Users and friends.

DRM free tunes from Amazon!

September 25th @ 1:19 pm  -  Business  -  1 Comment

There’s been a lot of hype lately with some major names leaving iTunes.  Some have favored their own stores, some have favored new business partners.  Now there’s a new choice.

AmazonMP3 has officially launched.  You can purchase top name artists in DRM free MP3 format for 89 cents.  This is truly a step forward for online music.  This is something even I, a humble pirate, can appreciate.  Thanks, Amazon!

Read/WriteWeb has more info.

If 40m users get OpenID, would anybody notice it?

According to Read/WriteWeb, Orange added OpenID to their userbase of 40 million people.  This would be excellent news, if only OpenID were easy to understand and easy to use.

In my experience, OpenID has been nothing but a pain to implement.  There’s no clear documentation, explanation, etc.  The only thing that exists that I’ve found are the white docs.  This will not help my grandma figure out how to use OpenID.  The system needs to be easy to use, end of story.

New CenterNetworks article

September 20th @ 1:23 am  -  Quick Links  -  0 Comments

I’m typing this from my new favorite software app, BlogJet.  I researched a few desktop blog management programs, and found this one to be the most amazing (there really was a nice selection!)

I also documented my research over at CenterNetworks.
